The first thing you need is fresh content on your site. New content is a huge plus in the eyes of search engines. Also make sure that the content is high quality. You may not think that search engines would notice this, but they do. Relevant and high quality content is something that will go a long way in your websites success.

The next piece of the puzzle is backlinks. High quality backlinks are one of the most important aspects of how well your site ranks. Search engines automatically check this regularly so you must make sure to be getting links regularly as well. The higher the quality the links are the higher you will rank.

Meta tags are a helpful aspect to SEO as well. These make it easier for search engines to find out what kind of subject your site is addressing. You can get programs to create these for you automatically and that will improve your rankings as well.

Essentially what a meta tag does is summarize what your site is about. A search engine such as Google can then easily determine what type of keywords your site will show up for. This helps speed up the process.

Using good heading tags is one of the best ways to show what the important words are on your site. This also helps speed up the accurate ranking process. Once I started using good heading tags my sites ranked a lot faster and a lot higher.

Bold text is one of the simplest but easiest ways to improve rankings as well. Highlighting what the important keywords are in a post can help search engines prioritize that post. I use this all the time and find it extremely helpful. It takes just a second to do but will go a long way.
