Successful in his own right as the designer of his independent fashion label Marc by Marc Jacobs, his associated with notable French fashion house Louis Vuitton where he currently works as creative director only serves to garner him more experience and influence within the fashion industry.

Growing up in Teaneck, New Jersey, Jacobs had a passion for the fashion industry from a young age attending the High School of Art and Design in New York. Jacobs started working in the industry at the tender age of 15 when he worked as a stock boy at the now defunct clothing boutique Charivari.

Jacobs would go on to attend the Parsons School of Design in New York where he began to be realised for his design talents receiving numerous awards. He also began to get some real work experience with popular fashion designers at the time and worked with both Reuban Thomas Inc and Perry Ellis in their designs department. It was at Perry Ellis that Jacob's designs really began to be noticed.

Robert Duffy was to be a key player in the life of Marc Jacobs and they began their creative partnership in the mid 1980's creating the Jacobs Duffy Design Inc brand. Jacobs launched his first independent brand in 1986 and it was met with great esteem from the fashion industry. This led to him winning the Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent, awarded by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The first full range of Marc Jacobs clothing was launched in 1994 and the brand has continued to develop and grow from that day. America is home to ten boutique Mark Jacobs stores and they can also be found in the Middle East, Europe and the Far East. Aside from his own label, Jacobs is also well-known for his work with French fashion house Louis Vuitton. He has served Louis Vuitton as their creative director from 1997 right up until this day.
