-The Horse's Training Report
In the same way that you would never hire an unqualified individual for a job, you should refrain from buying an animal that doesn't have the training you require. In sport or performance scenarios this is fairly straightforward. Unless you have the patience and time to teach "new tricks", the best approach is to make sure that the training is there beforehand. Sometimes the training has a direct effect on the price simply because animals that have been trained and raised in more quality places will generally have more "qualifications".
-What Are Your Purposes?
If you intend to get a pet for your family that your kids and their buddies can ride, getting an ex-bronco is almost certainly a mistake. With the same logic, if you want a horse for the ranch don't get a horse that is its latter part of its life because in a few years when it passes you'll be needing a new horse. When you buy a horse you should make a checklist of all the traits you're looking for and what you want the animal to do. Get an animal that fills your criteria. This will keep you grounded when you decide to go out and actually buy.
-Consider Age
This has been said a time or two but it is absolutely crucial that you consider the age of the horse you are looking into buying. You generally want to have one young enough that you will not be forced into buying a new one next year. Naturally you can't expect your perfect age to come up every time, but if you target a particular age and then allow for two years of leeway you will be better serving your best interests.
Location is not an excuse any longer when you are trying to find horses for sale. Finding animals that you can buy is not an issue in the least, however there are some ways to make sure that you are purchasing the perfect horse for your situation. Some things to think about are the type of training, your motivation for buying an animal, and finally how old your horse is. By taking notice of this issue you'll be better assured that you are purchasing the right horse for your life.
