Each time Google or Bing introduces a new website ranking algorithm, webmasters fall all over themselves trying to determine if they need to readjust their search engine optimization campaigns. That's not surprising in the least, as good search engine rankings virtually ensure a site's success, and low rankings can be very difficult to overcome.

As such, I have reviewed my website promotion plans and activities dozens of times in just the last two years. Article marketing has helped my sites land and remain in the Google top 20, so I carefully analyze my article marketing results. Here are the five essential things I have learned.

1. Contrary to what many folks believe, quality matters. I know that lots of webmasters grind out low quality articles in a matter of minutes; articles that are poorly constructed and poorly written. And, some of these articles are published, but not widely, and not on authority sites. If you want to be published on high quality, high Google PR websites, your articles must be good.

2. Write useful articles. Think about the problems and challenges people face. Think of their hobbies. Consider the subjects on which you can offer people good advice.

3. Remember that your initial and most important audience is the webmasters of the article directory sites. If they don't publish your articles, you're out of luck. Next in importance are the website owners who visit the article directory sites in terms of content. Some are looking for nearly anything they can add to their sites, but most are looking for articles that their readers will enjoy and/or find helpful. Be sure you give them what they want, and your articles will earn you the links you want.

4. Consider hiring professionals to write articles for you. That will allow you to maximize the number of articles you can submit and help you reach more people. But, be careful about who you hire, and proofread their articles until you are satisfied that they are competent. Unfortunately, many of the folks who claim to be professional writers are more concerned with whipping up quick articles than on producing quality.

5. Resist the temptation to "keyword stuff" your articles. If you are writing an online education article, for example, there are terms like online degree and online college which you might naturally use, but be sure you don't over use them.

Article marketing has played a big role in the success of many websites, and there is evidence that it may be an even better strategy now than ever before. But, only for folks who use good articles; articles that are good enough to ultimately appear on high Google PR websites. It's not that difficult if you're willing to put in a little time and effort.
