Here is a cold truth: most people who go into Internet Marketing do so because they want a fast method to earn easy money. They want to build a quick website, put up some advertising and affiliate links and sit back and earn some extra cash. There are some people who try this and manage to earn a good living online. What happens, however, if your intention is more than some simple or (terrible as the term may be) quick cash? Can Internet Marketing definitely be leveraged to generate a sensible and long term career?
The short and dirty answer is that yes, you are able to make Internet Marketing your long term and sustainable career. You merely have to take on the job effectively. The things you do to earn money quickly aren't all that different than the things you will do to earn sustainable and long term money. So how do you start setting up a sustainable revenue and career online?
The first thing you'll want to realize is that if you are working to build an honest career that you are going to be doing real work. You will probably be doing this work on a daily basis and there will be days when you really like it and days when it feels like trudging through mud. In this way it is going to be exactly like almost every other job out there. If you are hoping to create long term millions by doing a large amount of work now and nothing later, then you are going to be in for a rude surprise in a few months. So be ready to really sit down and do genuine work.
There are many tasks that work better as long term money earners than others. Affiliate marketing, to use one example, is a great task for someone who wants to earn money on a part time basis or to supplement your already existent income. Can you create a full time salary this way? Sure, if you select the best products and solutions and promote them quite a lot. It will be a lot better strategy, however, is to construct your own products and solutions and websites and then work to promote them. This gives you complete command over the projects you take on and how you accomplish them. And you will be more likely to stick with it eventually. If you wish to provide a service on the net this works much the same way. Writers, for example, need to develop websites for themselves and create portfolios that they can point to as examples of their work.
Finally, perhaps the most significant thing that you need to recognize is that, when you want to build a long term and reliable income on the internet, you need to truly dedicate yourself to your task. It could be fun and amazingly rewarding but first you'll want to say "okay I really want this." Making a half hearted attempt isn't going to get you anywhere.
