Do you know what is ironic? A good percentage of us who decided to become involved with a home based business took such measures so that we could have more time with our families. Unfortunately, many of us are finding that we have less time than we did working a traditional job. Let us investigate why this might be happening.

From the outset, you need to keep in mind that your home based business is similar to a new job. Every new job has a learning curve. This is true whether your prior job was in the same industry. Often times different jobs utilize different operating systems, which take some time of get a handle on. You will find that as you engage in the day to day of your home based business, faster ways to do things, or even multi-task will be discovered, thus shortening your work day.

One thing which you must keep in mind, as well as communicating to your family, is that there has to be some short-term pain for a long-term gain. Once your home based business begins to grow, you can outsource many of the tasks which routinely consume your time. Remember that in the early stages of your home based business, you are the CEO, CFO, COO, marketing team, sales team, secretary, etc. Eventually, you will be able to outsource some of these tasks, freeing up your time.

While it is clear that especially in the early stages of your home based business that you have a finite amount of hours available to you daily, here are some suggestions which may help. If you have children at home, make sure that you set a solid work schedule, and make sure that your children are aware that during those hours, you are "at work", and unavailable.

Make it a priority to schedule your later breaks in the day at a time when you children come home from school. That way, you can spend time with them, and work while they do their homework. Thereafter, it will probably be dinner time, which gives you more time with your children.

Personally, I need less sleep than do the members of my family. As a result, I am able to frequently work late while my family is sleeping, or wake up early and work, also while my family sleeps.

Your exact solution will be determined by yourself, as well as the specific home based business you are operating. My advice to you is to make sure that you schedule time for your family. Make sure that you clearly communicate with all members of your family regarding which times you are blocking out for your business activity.

With some good planning, you can be successful in being good to your family and your home based business.
