You've probably watched videos online, right? Millions of people do so everyday. But, if you are not posting your own videos to promote your company and brand, why not?
Some YouTube Stats
8 million views/day in 2005: 3 billion views/day in 2011! (That's with a 'B')
Monthly viewers - 490 million
Visitors to video sharing sites increased from 33% in 2006 to 71% in 2011.
More than 50% of video viewers share links to videos they find.
YouTube is owned by Google. It's become the #2 global search engine.
The reason is in the numbers. The size of market and their sharing behaviour is invaluable.
Just Try It
Many people consider video marketing some kind of special thing for special people to do. Here are some typical excuses for not shooting video:
What should I talk about?
Where do I begin?
I'm intimidated by it all
My voice sounds stupid
How do I develop story ideas?
Other folks use a lack of technical knowledge as an excuse. You figured out how to use a computer didn't you? Got an mp3 player? A PVR? Heck, even a digital watch takes some figuring out. Take the initiative to learn some video skills and see where it takes your business.
People think it's too expensive; that you have to hire professional studio people, or special equipment. False! All you need are:
a PC or Mac
webcam (usually equipped on your computer, but inexpensive to buy)
a YouTube account
you can even use your phone. Most of them have video capabilities now a days.
Another excuse - 'who would watch my videos?'
Think about simple subjects. Don't get too complicated. Search for videos that explain how to do something. See what the average Joe has done, to see how simple it can be. Look for videos on how to wash your hair, for example, or how to change a tire.
Find a topic that will help people solve a problem, and talk about it - on video. Show that you are the expert.
Where to Begin
Create a summary. Outline what you want to say, and how you want to start and finish your video.
Prepare equipment and environment. Ensure everything is working and that you have a quiet environment to work in (no phones ringing, or dogs barking).
Prepare for your role. Even if you're not, try to look and sound confident. You are the CEO of your company and proud of it.
Closing action. They've seen your video, now what? Give them a call to action to call a toll free number, or ideally to visit your web site, where they'll find out more great tips for whatever it is your video is about.
Load on YouTube. Post your video on YouTube (on your previously created YouTube Channel).
Include video description. In the box provided, start with your website link. Add a sentence or two explaining what is in the video and include keywords so it is easier to find you.
ACTION
Begin today. Start with a story idea and an outline, then turn the camera on. Some people find it easier to start by using a slide show with their voice over top. It helps to become at ease with your technology. Then put your face on camera. Practice makes perfect.
To take your home business to another level, video marketing is the way to go. Differentiate yourself and your services. Roll camera!
