Making the decision is just the start, then you have to work out what you're going to sell online and how you'll do it.

You're going to need to know about Internet marketing if you want to make sales on the Internet and be successful. A good Internet marketing education is fundamental and should enable you to sell your products around the world. Without it who is going to know about your business? If it's a new area for you then this adds to the challenge ahead.

If you had a brick and mortar business
you'd have to do a whole lot more than just open your doors and hope customers came in. It's the same on the Internet and you need to actively promote your business so people can find you.

You're going to have to look into getting yourself a great website so your customers can find you. Particularly when you consider that millions of people are searching the Internet each day and this number is growing steadily. You are going to have to get good at driving customers to your site so an Internet marketing education is essential.

Tools: Make sure you get the right equipment. You will need a computer and access to the Internet. There are lots of deals for both, so you will have to hunt around and find the ones that best suit your needs. I'm a MacBook Pro user these days. Always used a PC but now I've got my Mac, there's no looking back. Forgive the pun!

Work Space: Make sure you have somewhere in your home away from all the distractions. You need to be able to close the door on everyone that wants your time. You need to set some ground rules and let your family or friends know when you are going to be working. Too many distractions will prevent you from being productive.

Allocate Time: If you're looking after a family while starting a business, you'll have to work out what times will fit in with your priorities and set time aside. Juggling the two is challenging but then that's what's great about working from home, you can fit things in to suit your circumstances on your terms. If you miss out during the day, you can make up during the evening or night. This is how I operate as I have complex family needs and need the flexibility that working from home gives me.

Perseverance and Discipline: If you persevere and have discipline, then you are far more likely to keep going, particularly when facing challenging times as you surely will. These need to become habits and once they do, staying the course will be much easier and you are far more likely to succeed. Businesses that fail tend to be lacking in these areas so make sure you're not one of them.

Focus and Goals: Be focussed on what you want to achieve and set realistic goals that you celebrate as you achieve success on your journey. Don't try and do too much at once. This will help you to stay on track.

These tips should make a difference to your business if you implement them correctly, they have for me now I'm a woman working from home.
