One of the greatest characteristics of the home-based business industry is our ability to begin generating income on our very first day in business. There is an incredible amount of information to learn about how to create a lucrative and long lasting network marketing business and, for most of us, the learning will never stop, but with just a bit of coaching to get us pointed in the right direction, we can start creating a paycheck immediately. However, that cash will only flow to us if we have one thing right - our state of mind.

If your state of mind (or mindset, state, posture, attitude...whatever you call it) is not correct, you will not create a successful & lasting network marketing business. So, what is the proper state of mind? Well, that's personal to you. It's a question that I can't answer for you. It's dependent on your own values and goals. For me, the proper mindset consists of maintaining a state of confidence, passion, energy and enthusiasm, along with a burning desire to serve others as a coach and as a person with a solution that can empower them to fully realize their own contribution to the world.

We're told that network marketing is a numbers game and that is true. However, it shouldn't be only a game of sums. If you share your opportunity with enough people, you will eventually stumble upon somebody that recognizes both their own need and the solution you are providing. However, there are so many more people that, deep down, know they are not satisfied with their current circumstances, that want more out of life for themselves and their families, but that don't consciously recognize the source of their discomfort or the remedy that you can provide to eliminate their pain. It's those people that make it a game of percentages. The better you are at tapping into and maintaining the proper mindset, the better able you will be a instilling a sense of confidence in those people and leading them toward the solution they long for. The results you realize are a direct function of your behaviors and the actions that you take. The degree to which those behaviors move you closer toward or further away from your goals is directly linked to your mindset.

There are two main elements to developing an empowering mindset. Those are your internal representations and your physiology. Internal representations are essentially the way in which you interpret your experience of the world. In Neuro-Linguistic Programming, there is phrase: "The map is not the territory." A map is a useful tool. If it is accurate, it can help you navigate the territory, but it is not the territory it represents. It is merely one limited perspective of the world. Similarly, your interpretation of the world is but one limited view filtered through a lens created by a host of pre-conceived beliefs, values, attitudes, and ideas. Successful people have a pattern of internal representation that is empowering to them and supportive of the actions they undertake in pursuit of their goals.

The second key element to a proper mindset is your physiology. Factors like body posture, exercise, rest, nutrition, muscular tension, breathing patterns, and biochemistry all have a tremendous impact on your physiology, which, in turn, directly influences your perception of the world.

There is no separation between the mind and the body. Both internal representations and physiology react to and influence one another continuously and together they create your mindset. This is what determines whether your behavior is an empowering influence or not in your pursuit of success. Successful people are masters of strategically creating their internal representations and maximizing their physiology consistently enter resourceful states.

Study successful people throughout the network marketing industry. Whenever possible, interview successful home-based business owners. How do they represent the world to themselves differently than less successful entrepreneurs? How do they carry themselves? How important is their health to them? Do they eat properly and get enough rest? Do they exercise? What other habits do they feel contribute to their ability to create and maintain an empower state of mind. Become a student of this.
