I am a huge fan of anything that will make me more productive, so I am always searching for ways to get more done while not killing myself doing it. It is easier to excel if you can do more then your peers and still have time to relax and recharge. So here are some simple tips.

Concentrate on the important work first. Decide what work has to the biggest impact, and make sure you complete that first. Don't get side tracked with tasks that are not really all that important.

Get help if you require it. A task will take you less time if you don't waste time trying to figure out how to do it. Develop contacts with people that you can ask for help. Keep in mind that this is a two way street, you have to willing to help others also.

Become skilled at dealing with correspondence one time. This is a hard habit to develop, but it can be a huge time saver. For email or other communications, look over it and determine what to do with it right then: archive, respond, create a task item, and flag it for follow-up or discard. The key here is to make sure you deal with it just once rather then looking at it multiple times.

Work in segments of time and focus. Contrary to popular belief multitasking is not a good idea and actually hurts productivity. It has been shown in many studies that people work better when they focus on one thing at a time. The best way to do this is to figure out when you are most productive and work in blocks of time for example 45 minutes with a 10-minute break.

Keep things simple. When confronted with a task, look for ways to keep it simple and avoid investing time on complexity that does not add much value. For example, simple document formatting, don't get bogged down with elaborate formatting instead focus on getting the content right.

Take time to recharge your batteries. If you constantly work you will seem like you are busy but you will burn yourself out. If you want to boost your productivity then take time to workout, do something fun, take time to relax. You will find that if you do this you will feel renewed and you will be able to work even better.
