Since you are researching cloning you probably know the importance of the sex of the plant. If you don't know, let me save you some research. other than for cross breeding purposes male plants serve no purpose in marijuana cultivation and actually cause problems. You should buy feminized seeds to start out and avoid male plants all together. Only make clones from plants that you are sure are 100% female.

Preparation is the first step. The stuff you will need to have includes soil, clear plastic cups, cloning gel or powder, razor blade, alcohol/prep pads, and a spray bottle. All of this can be bought at Home Depot for around $20. Part of preparation is having an area ready for the clone. The spot will need to be on a 18/6 light cycle and have easy access for you to be able to keep an eye on it. Airflow is also important to help stave of and mold issues that may arise.

Now we need to build the dome that the clone will be growing in. Starting with a clear plastic cup we will need to make sure that water can properly drain. This can be achieved by cutting 3 holes along the rim on the bottom of the cup using the razor blade. Now you need to make something to catch the water run off from the original cup. Anything that is slightly bigger and tall enough to catch a little water should do. In order to use another clear cup as the top dome you will have to do a little retro fitting. Cut the top inch off the original, drainage cut, cup so that the other cup can slide down over it. Now you have your dome built.

The clone dome is ready for soil now. I don't stress the type of soil I use for this step. My only point of contention is any nutrient heavy soil for this stage. I do however like to prepare my soil in a specific way. Start by over saturating a cup full of soil with distilled water. Wait until it is all wet and then drain the water out. Now your soil is ready to provide many days of aided humidity to your clone dome and assist with root growth. The last thing I like to do is prepare a hole for the clone in the soil, and also add a pinch of cloning gel/powder. Just a habit.
